Jonathan Zwerling, MD – Board Certified Ophthalmologist
Dr. Jonathan received his bachelor of science degree from Cornell University, and he went on to receive his M.D. from Stony Brook University Medical Center School of Medicine. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical national honor society. He spent a year performing a medical internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Cabrini Medical Center. He then went on to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, serving as chief administrative resident in his final year. Soon after, he became fully board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
In addition to seeing patients at the Rockaway Park office, he also works at NYU Langone Brooklyn hospital in Sunset Park. There, he is actively involved in teaching medical students and residents.
Dr. Jonathan specializes in the full range of eye problems in both children and adults. He is an accomplished cataract surgeon, and even performs surgery for other doctors. He was among the first surgeons in Brooklyn and Queens to be certified in implanting both the toric intraocular lens implant for astigmatism correction, and the PanOptix multifocal intraocular lens implant to allow for greater freedom without glasses after cataract surgery. In addition, he has extensive experience with severe ocular trauma, having covered the Emergency Departments of various hospitals throughout Brooklyn since 2003. He prides himself on his conservative approach, excellent outcomes, and his relationship with his patients.
Dr. Jonathan is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, New York State Medical Society, Brooklyn Ophthalmic Society, American Medical Association, Queens County Medical Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Additionally, in 2010 he was elected by his peers to serve on the Board of Directors for the New York State Ophthalmic Society.
